This is a pretty amazing mix, actually. As someone who was a fan of all this stuff back before anyone had decided what to call it (I still really hate that “shoegaze” is the term that caught on), I can tell you right now that this is an extremely solid overview of all the bands other than the big two everyone still talks about (MBV and Slowdive) that were a part of this whole era. I am not personally a big fan of House Of Love, so you have my permission to skip the first track here (though I can’t deny they were really important to the scene, for reasons that were always unfathomable to me). However, some semi-forgotten classics of the genre from Kitchens Of Distinction, The Boo Radleys, Catherine Wheel, The Pale Saints, and even Glide–possibly the most horrifically underrated of all these bands–make this an essential listen.
