The fabulous design team behind I am Acrylic just combined my two most favorite things: radio astronomy and astro fashion. I’m swooning to death over here.

I am Acrylic collaborated with the Jodrell Bank Observatory at the University of Manchester to produce these limited items celebrating radio astronomy:

Telescope necklace

Telescope brooch

Pulsar necklace

Pulsar brooch

M82 Radio Galaxy necklace

I’m drooling over all of them, but the M82 necklace is definitely my favorite. M82 (Messier 82) is a galaxy 12 million light years away from us, in the direction of the Big Dipper, and it’s interesting for several reasons: 1) there is a massive starburst region in its center, 2) Supernova SN2014J went off in it just under two years ago, 3) it contains the brightest pulsar ever known, M82 X-2.

If all that wasn’t cool enough, in 2009 astronomers observed a super energetic radio source that appeared to be moving along the galaxy faster than the speed of light (as shown in an image above).

Team Radio FOREVER.
