Durham ACF Decade of Academic Achievement through CVQO

On Wednesday, Colonel C Tearney, Commandant of Durham Army Cadet Force welcomed over 100 guests to an award ceremony held at Londonderry Hall, South Shields, to celebrate 10 years of academic achievement for cadets in Durham ACF.  

In recognition of the value of these awards and since Durham ACF straddles the boundaries of two counties, both the Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Nigel Sherlock Esq OBE and the Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Mrs. Sue Snowdon kindly agreed to be guests of honour and to make the presentations.

More than 600 cadets from Durham have gained BTEC Awards since the scheme was rolled out nationally just over ten years ago.  These are BTEC Level 2 Awards in Public Services and, for those in the Band, BTEC Level 2 Awards in Music.

These awards are recognised by employers, colleges and universities and can make a significant difference to the cadet’s chances of gaining employment or access to higher education.
