Baking for Charity

When we think of a birthday party or celebration, one of the things that probably comes to mind is the great big cake that will be had. I remember how happy I used to get when my parents would bring out my birthday cake.  After all, a birthday party without a birthday cake is just not right! Unfortunately, many kids don’t have the same privilege of having a cake on their birthday. According to Sue Quinn, in an article posted on The Guardian, Free Cakes UK is a service that matches amateur bakers with families struggling to provide their child with a birthday cake. While baking cakes may seem to be just a small gesture, a birthday cake can actually be very meaningful for a young kid. Being able to bring the “candle” light to a child’s birthday and a smile to their face is such a rewarding experience.

Another way to contribute to charity through baked goods can be found on this website: www.bakingforgood.com. Here, people can order their own personalized cakes, cupcakes, or cookies and choose which type of charity they want their money to be donated. These pastries are a terrific gift for anyone and can also be the perfect plate to bring to a dinner party or other event. The beauty of this site is that you get to shop for tasty treats while paying it forward at the same time. What could be more satisfying?

In an article written by Nikki Vivian on honestcooking.com, she shows how effective baking has become in fundraising for charities, especially in the UK where the idea has grown greatly in popularity. The combination of baking delicious treats, shopping for personalized snacks, enjoying a delicious cake, all while helping those in need is an amazing thing.

Wouldn’t you love to try some of these delicious cakes, cupcakes or cookies while paying it forward? It would certainly alleviate part of the guilt.
