Spotlight On: JAM Project- Masami Okui
If you came into anime around the 90s, you probably have heard songs by Masami Okui throughout various anime series. Beginning her career at age 21 as a backup singer, Okui has spent much of her career singing for anime television series and movies.
She is especially well known for her songs from Revolutionary Girl Utena, Tales of Eternia The Animation, Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters, Di Gi Charat, Magic User’s Club, Jungle de Ikou, Akihabara Dennou Gumi, Ray the Animation, He Is My Master and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters.
Aside from performing, Okui currently hosts @Tunes, an anime music news program, on the Japanese anime television network Animax.
Fans will be able to see Okui perform live as part of JAM Project at Anime Boston 2014 this March, where the band will perform a concert together and a second concert featuring their solo work.
Songs of her solo work we recommend:
“Get Along”- Slayers opening theme
“Mask” - Sorcerer Hunters ending theme
“Never Die”- Slayers Excellent OVA ending theme
“Rinbu Revolution”- Revolutionary Girl Utena opening theme
“Toki ni Ai Wa” - Adolescence of Utena movie song
