Bmore Into Comics - Kata Kane
For the month of Feb we will be highlighting the artists who currently have their work on display in the Bmore Into Comics Art Show at Golden West!
Kata Kane is an illustrator, designer, and comic book artist best known as the creator of Altar Girl, an all-ages manga style graphic novel and ongoing webcomic series commended as the “cute shoujo manga with a spine of steel!” (Girls Like Comics, 2014)
Kata has been day jobbing as a professional graphic designer for the better part of a decade, and has struck out on her own as a freelance illustrator & designer. Her biggest comic influences are Rumiko Takahashi’s everything (but mostly Ranma ½), and Chynna Clugston’s Blue Monday. A girl’s got to have a code, and since age 10 Kata has aspired to be like Sailor Moon: always fighting for love & justice.
Someone once told her that Altar Girl “…is like Archie and anime had sex,” and though she really hasn’t found an appropriate way to repeat that to her all-ages crowd, she appreciates the sentiment just the same.

Bmore Into Comics - Mike Riley
For the month of Feb we will be highlighting the artists who currently have their work on display in the Bmore Into
Comics Art Show at Golden West!
Mike Riley is a native of Baltimore who started making comics in 2010. He’s a regular contributor to Atomic Books’ Mutant Funnies. His work can also be seen through his frequent collaborations with area musician Height Keech.
The Baltimore City Paper described a collection of Mike’s cartoons as “a little bit nuts” and “guffaw-worthy,” going on to say “you may find yourself laughing in spite of yourself.”
Of Mike’s single panel cartoon blog, I Taste Sound, J. Aaron at Grizzly Bomb said “There’s just something about the lo-fi style art and mixture of clever and blunt humor and odd logic that makes us laugh, wows us, and genuinely evokes the feeling of being at an indie comics show.”
Mike is ¼ Amish and his dad is a security guard at Disney World. Prior to making comics he obtained a degree in Art from Towson University and co-founded the award winning multi-use arts space in Baltimore’s Station North Arts & Entertainment District, the Hexagon.
