This is a church in Berkeley, CA.

It is the latest in a series of paintings I have done of churches in the area. I have a complex understanding of religion and it's attractive force, and these drawings help me explore my relationship to these buildings. As aesthetic objects in my community, I find almost all churches to be beautiful and inspirational places. Having never really attended church, I still find that the buildings themselves radiate warmth and welcoming. Even when surrounded by a chain-link fence.

Mostly, churches make me think of people, and the dedication to human goodness that some people have as a result of their belief that God is paying attention.
