Anonymous asked: Um I don't think you have go SEE sex to understand if he's gay. I mean they do say it in the film I don't know why you think that seeing sex is the only way to validate a persons sexuality in films?

Hey, nonny!

I totally understand your POV.

I wish we lived in a world where we had diverse films about queer people! Queer films that chose to show explicit sex scenes, queer films that decided only to show kissing, queer films that really are only interested in following dates that involve conversation & picnics & roasting marshmallows.

However, we don’t live in that world yet. We get, at best, one movie a year that features a queer protagonist (and this is usually a ‘troubled’ cis gay white dude, but that’s a subject for another day). Basically, what I’m saying is, because we hardly ever get films about queer people, when we do get a film about a queer person, I want it to be done right. What does ‘done right’ entail for me? It entails the straight ppl who are writing the scripts, directing the film, and acting the roles, STOP SHYING AWAY FROM THE FACT THAT GAY PPL HAVE SEX.

How many sex scenes between straight people do we get in films? A LOT. How many sex scenes between queer people do we get in films? Uh….barely ANY.

I agree, seeing sex is not the only way to validate a person’s sexuality in films. But, frankly, I’m tired of straight people tip-toeing around the fact that GAY PEOPLE HAVE SEX.

As a queer person, I want to see Alan Turing saving the world with SCIENCE! As a queer person, I want to see Alan Turing going on a cute picnic with his bf. And, as a queer person, I also want to see Alan Turing having raunchy gay sex. I want them to explore all aspects of Alan Turing’s life - INCLUDING THE VERY REAL FACT THAT HE HAD SEX.

Would we be having the same conversation if this was a biopic about a straight man? No. Because there would be a sex scene in the movie.

And no, there wouldn’t be a sex scene if Turing would have been straight.

Has there been a sex scene in Argo? Has there been a sex scene in The King’s Speech? Has there been a sex scene in…. I could go on and on…
