orzclones asked: Why do you feel like it's okay to proudly call yourself a misandryst? How would you feel if it was common for men to proudly call themselves misogynist? You are a femenist, right? Feminism implies equality of gender, right? If so, you can't possibly be a misandrist and a femenist. That goes against the very definition of feminism! I'm genuinely curious, because I've seen such an increase in this trend, and frankly, it's a bit worrying for the future of feminism.

I am constantly hearing ppl say “you can’t be a feminist if you’re a misandrist~~” as if feminists calling ourselves misandrists has nothing to do with ppl labelling feminism as a man-hating group. “you’re just feeding into that~” no, I’m being sarcastic. but if a little man-hating joke is going to topple feminism then I’d gladly rather be a misandrist than rub elbows with passive panderers who fall into the tone-argument trap.

True story, when I first identified as a feminist in middle/high school, I was constantly called a man hater right off the bat.  Before I’d even laid out my beliefs or what feminism meant to me.  “Oh so you hate men!” was always the automatic response from boys and men.  Which, of course, my naive, insecure self didn’t want guys to think, so I’d respond “No, I love men, men are great, here’s a list of men I love…”.  It ended up being that I spent all my energy on ‘damage control’ and boosting men’s egos so they didn’t feel hated/blamed/left out, and I had little-to-no time left for actual focus on women/nb folk or their needs.  It took me an incredibly long time to realize how much of my feminism had been spent correcting people who assumed I hated men, until I finally went “You know what?  Fuck this.  Fuck these men who demand that I make room for their feelings around MY belief system while refusing to give a single shit about mine.  They demand I include them in my activism but refuse to stop making misogynistic jokes around me and insist that it’s ME that is too sensitive, so fuck it.  I’ll say I hate men.  Just get it out of the way.  They’re going to insist that I do anyway, so might as well be like “Sure I do, if you say so. Okay, on to people who matter…”
