An oldie, but a goody! This #TransitThursday we ask for your best transit haiku! Remember, that’s a line of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and 5 syllables & don’t forget the hashtag #TransitThursday!
It’s Thursday! You know what that means… it’s time for #TransitThursday
This week, at the request of @CCTgirl, we are showing our love for transit in the form of a haiku. If you don’t know what a haiku is, click here for the wiki definition. Basically, it’s a short poem using the form of 5-7-5 syllables.
James Willamor’s photos of the SPRINTER hybrid bus (CATS’ limited stop service to the Charlotte Douglas Airport) inspired me to write my first haiku:
@mamakoid: Headed to airport? SPRINTER hybrid bus takes you. Be green ride transit! #TransitThursday #Haiku #Charlotte #CLT #SPRINTER

Don’t be a turkey this #TransitThursday, share why you are thankful for #transit!!
Facebook’s 30 days of thanks had me thinking… why not do a #TransitThursday centered around the reasons we are thankful for transit?
Now I know that next #TransitThursday is actually Thanksgiving in the U.S., but many of you will be in transit to visit and break bread with friends and family. So, let’s share our #TransitThursday transit thanks today!
I am thankful for #transit for so many reasons, but here are a few:
- Transit is my primary mode of transportation
- Transit is my job!
- Transit is my way to express myself, like with #TransitThursday!
- Transit helps me explore my city, meet new people, enjoy the presence of the world around me.
I am thankful for:
- My awesome community that supports and rides transit!
- My fellow planners and the elected officials that support the vision, goals and plans for a comprehensive transportation system that includes transit!
- My transit operators who take me places safely, on time and with a smile!
- My fellow passengers - who smile, share a conversation, offer a helpful tip, or help someone who is lost, those who offer their seat to the elderly, a mother with kids or someone who’s simply just had a long day.
I am thankful that transit helps to transform, create and re-create places.
I am thankful that transit provides a way for all people, particularly those who may not otherwise have any other way, a way to travel to work, shop, visit the doctor, see a friend, visit family, recreate, or just see the world around them.
So don’t be a turkey this #TransitThursday, share why you are thankful for transit! **Don’t forget to use the hashtag #TransitThursday!!**
What can #Transit do for you this #TransitThursday?
It’s tough to come up with great #TransitThursday topics every week. Happy #TransitThursday y'all!
It’s been a long, exhausting weekend for our family. My 94 year old grandmother passed away today. We are thankful that she lived a long life and passed quickly and peacefully.
While she may not have always been perfect, she taught me some very important things in life, like:
• how to express myself through my art - and that there is in fact a right and wrong way to hold and clean a paintbrush
• how to trifold a piece of paper perfectly so that it fits into an envelope and always opens in the same direction
• having systems can help you organize anything - even if those systems are as simple as a different color pen or a sticker
• you can pretty much lay away anything at Kmart - including candy!
• classic dentyne gum is the best kind of chewing gum
• Frank Sinatra was truly the greatest singer ever to grace this earth
• humor and wit during times of seriousness can make any situation better
• the importance of owning an extremely large purse - so you can sneak in cans of classic coke and candy into the movie theaters - DUH!
• how to appreciate a great movie and tell if it’s Oscarworthy
• baking treats brings joy to everyone - and can also lend to future favors - i.e. if you keep your mechanics and doctors’ sweet tooth happy, you’ll never have a problem getting an appointment!
• to marry the first “real” time for love
• Polish babies are huge and have big heads
• when betting on horses, always go for the one with a great name
• even as a grandmother, you can still be 29 and holding
• the term and the execution of the term “pedal to the metal”
• when driving and needing to stop suddenly, the right arm can swing out and double as a seat belt
• the importance of a good cup of coffee
• our animals are really the only honest and true creatures we can trust
• that you can never have too many shoes or too much gold lame
• that you can lose both your boobs to cancer and still pull in all the men
• you can never be old to try a new trendy cocktail or enjoy a good happy hour - and just because you turn 90, doesn’t mean you can’t still throw back 3 Cosmos
• every day deserves an ice cream (a scoop, a sundae, or a milkshake) - and that you should always have dessert first, because you never know when you’re going to kick the bucket
• that when we’re young, we have the body but don’t think that we do because we’re crazy in the head; when we’re old, we finally have our mind together but no longer have the body - that’s life!
• and in life, you may make some good decisions and some really bad ones. But when all is said and done, you do your best to be who you are, to tell a good story, and to make people laugh
We’ll miss you Mom Mom!
