ROCKAWAY!

June 29 - September 1, 2014

Rockaway Beach is loved for its scenic seaside beauty that was just one of the many areas left in devastation in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and now we are excited for the official reopening just in time for summer!

From June 29th to September 1, 2014 the area will host a free public arts festival sponsored by the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy in collaboration with MoMA PS1, the Rockaway Artist Alliance and the NYC National Park Service to celebrate the reopening of Fort Tilden and recognize the ongoing recovery and revitalization of the Rockaway peninsula. Conceived by MoMa Director, Klaus Biesenbach along with award-winning musician Patti Smith, the summer long festival will feature a large-scale installation and photography exhibition by Smith, in addition to solo projects by acclaimed artists Adrián Villar Rojas, and Janet Cardiff as well as an international group show. Rockaway! serves as an inspiring example of how New Yorker’s have united to rebuild the Rockaways.

Actor James Franco will kick off the festivities with a poetry reading, followed by a spoken word performance from acclaimed artist, writer and musician, Patti Smith.

Thank you to all those who helped in making the Rockaway Recovery efforts a huge success.
