Charity in the City

For those of us in the position to donate either our time and money, or both, there is no greater feeling than lending support to a charity or organization that is near and dear to our hearts.  New York City is well known for its gala’s and charity events, all with amazing contributions to great causes.  We’ve hand picked a few notable events coming up for you to potentially attend:

The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center will hold their Fifth Annual Spring Ball on Wednesday April 25th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Founded in 1946, the society supports and funds a wide range of initiatives for research and prevention for all types of cancer.  Fund-raising goes towards patient care, education, and research for prevention, early detection and treatment. This years’ spring ball is sponsored by Gucci and promises a celebrity studded, fashionable night of dinner, dancing and special musical guests to show appreciation for donors generous support.  For more information on this black tie event and the society visit here

Friends of the High Line annual spring benefit is Tuesday, May 1st and proceeds from ticket sales will go to continued dedication and maintenance of preserving the beautiful west side public park we’ve all grown to love and enjoy.  With official plans underway for completion of the final phase of the High Line, your contribution will help enhance this space to its greatest potential.  Many would argue there isn’t a better spot to take in unprecedented city view and enjoy a warm summer day than on the High Line.  Ticket info and details on other ways to contribute can be found here

MoMa’s Party in the Garden is one of the season’s most highly anticipated events for philanthropists of all ages.  Set inside the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, this years party is honoring Michael Lynne, Anna Marie Shapiro and Edgar Wachenheim III and will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd.  If you like to mix A-list celebrity watching with your charitable endeavors, this is the fete for you.  Kanye West and Jay-Z were on hand last year to lend their support with an exciting performance for more than 1,000 guests. Your generous donation will benefit the MoMa’s unparalleled and award winning programs for education of the arts and ongoing conservation of historic art collections. Tickets will be available in April, and you can contact specialevents@moma.org for more information. (Pictured above is Kanye performing to an energetic crowd at last years event)

Parson’s 2012 Paint It Red Gala is an exciting evening filled with dancing, drinks and both silent and live auctions that provide the famous Parsons Dance school with support for all the ways they help enhance the community. On April 16th, the company will treat attendees to a live dance performance while they enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Festive cocktail attire with a “splash” of red is requested, along with a great attitude ready to dance the night away.  A range of ticket options are available and can be found here.
