Halstead’s Helping Hand
Words cannot express how proud Halstead Property is of the strength and resolve New York City has shown in the face of the tragedy and adversity that Hurricane Sandy left in its wake. The entire community has come together with determination in order to begin the process of rebuilding and healing, demonstrating the unifying love for the city that New Yorkers share. The generosity and thoughtfulness that people have shown at this time, giving all they have to help others in need, is a great source of pride and happiness for us.
One glowing example of this is the grassroots community project that Halstead Property has initiated. Spearheaded by Halstead Agents Laura Amin, Jennifer Cooke and Meryl Blackman, Shira Rosenhaft, Linda VanderWoude, and Sarah Chamberlain, alongside Trish Martin, Halstead Property’s Director of Sales, the office at 150 Montague Street posted a sign in the window detailing an initiative to collect donations and to deliver the items to areas in need. The Brooklyn Heights Neighborhood Association picked up the story and put it on their website, directing anyone with a desire to help to the Halstead Property Brooklyn Heights office. The outreach was incredible. A seemingly endless stream of donations began on Saturday and hasn’t stopped. Everything from blankets and clothing to diapers to cleaning supplies to pet supplies was given. Everyone arrived with smiles and gratitude. A company named “Moving Right Along” and their owner, Jim Rueda, donated a moving truck to assist with the transportation of the goods. The response was tremendous.
Brooklyn agents then loaded up cars and trucks and drove the donation items out to Rockaway, Breezy Point, Staten Island, Red Hook and Coney Island. They made 10 trips on Sunday alone and will continue making trips throughout the week. They went to the 101st Precinct in far Rockaway, at Beach 15th Street and Heyson. They went to 116th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, where the damage was alarming. They went to the Red Hook Distribution Center. They went to the Red Cross of Staten Island. Many of the agents used their own cars and donated their own time and money to the relief effort. Several agents waited on line for hours to get gas just so they can make the trip and deliver the donation items.
Halstead Property will be holding another collection on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th between 11am and 5pm at 150 Montague Street. Volunteers are still needed in order to assist with transportation and distribution of the donations. They are no longer in need of any clothing donations.
