Get Up Kids’ Guide to Eating Lawrence, KS

Back in January the Get Up Kids released their 5th album “There Are Rules” and in June they are going on tour with Saves the Day.  But where do they like to eat when they’re home?  Lead sing Matt Pryor sat down with us recently to share his food picks for Lawrence Kansas.

715 (715 Massachusetts St.)
Excellent food using almost exclusively local ingredients.  The butcher and cure their own salamis on site. They do really excellent things with Rabbit and Pork.  Sometimes I just go in there for the olives and the cured meats.  Always a winner.

Free State Brewing Company (636 Massachusetts St)
Good food, better than most pub food.  I guess you’d call it something of a Gastropub but the real winner is the beer.  Award winning in fact.  The Copperhead and the Oatmeal Stout are two of my personal favorites but there are always excellent seasonal selections as well.

Wheatfields Bakery (904 Vermont St)
European style brick oven bakery.  The best bread I’ve had outside of the old world hands down. On Wednesdays you can get the roasted garlic and sage loaf … yum.  Or on Fridays you can get Bavarian style pretzel rolls you will salivate over.

Sylas & Maddy’s Ice Cream (1014 Massachusetts St)
Hand made with only the best ingredients.  Some of the best I’ve ever had.  As the sign says when the line is out the door.  "It’s worth the wait"

The Bourgeois Pig (6 E 9th St)
Very small european style coffee shop and bar.  I like to go there in the afternoon and get the kids hot chocolate and enjoy and “Old Rasputin” stout on the front porch.  Excellent coffee, good drinks, knowledgeable staff … overall an A+.
