Pray the ignorance away: An open letter to Ann Coulter

Dear Ann Coulter,

I have just read an article (at http://www.samesame.com.au/news/international/7134/Pray-the-gay-away–Ann-Coulter.htm) about the recent comments you have recently made regarding your opinion of the LGBTQ community, and I would like to start this letter by clearly stating that your views on this issue, as well as any other one you think is “socially acceptable” are nothing short of disgusting. As my band The Lesbian Priests openly supports the LGBTQ community in every way possible, I just can’t comprehend how a person could see this line of thinking as logical, or acceptable in any way, shape or form.

The first comment you made that I’d like to address is your statement that you think ex-gay therapy works. Well, where are the statistics that show how successful this “treatment” is? Do you have any proof, other than people who claimed it worked? I could claim that I was given therapy to convince myself that I have not got freckles, but that doesn’t mean it is true. You have no scientific proof that any “therapy” works.

The second statement that I’d like to address is your desire for gay people to not be in the military. Once again, there is the issue of proof and statistics. There are no statistics to verify that LGBTQ people are more likely to perish in the line of fire, or that LGBTQ people are less effective at their mission. The sexual orientation, gender or race of a person does not influence the way they carry out their work.

In this statement, you also addressed your concern for women in the military. Like I said before, the sexual orientation, gender or race of a person does not influence the way they carry out their work.

The next statement you made was that if you had a son who came out as gay, you would tell them that they were adopted. Would you be that ashamed of your own child that you’d stoop that low? That proves how horrible you truly are. If you were a true believer in your Christian faith, you would have more of a heart, and be more accepting, as your Bible tells you to be.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that to describe your comments as disgusting, would be the ultimate understatement. If you had any consideration for the people around you, people would actually care about you, instead of viewing you as an extremist, attention seeking liberal, with a heart of stone, and horrible hair that makes you look like you are still stuck in the 90’s. (Not that there’s anything wrong with the 90’s. Had some good times back in the day.)

Sam and I will always support the LGBTQ community, through every hurdle that presents itself a challenge, for now and in the future.

-James Brady
