At 22-years-old, Matthew Kulp 12 FD has already developed a razor-sharp business acumen.

The recent RISD graduate intends to launch his own home furnishing company that would sell affordable furniture, clothing, appliances and stationery out of one stylish store. And much to Kulp’s delight, the folks at Upstart (a funding platform that pairs young entrepreneurs with financial backers) decided to support his inventive proposal.

The first RISD graduate to work with Upstart, Kulp is now accepting donations to fund his venture. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to participate in Upstart,” Kulp explains in a video embedded to his Upstart page. “[My business] would be dedicated to the accessibility of great design, the promotion of less waste in society, and ecological and domestic manufacturing.”

RISD is one of five schools chosen to be included in the launch of Upstart. We can’t wait to how the furniture designer’s business unfolds!
