Medievalists Remember David Warner

Tomorrow (November 9) RISD and Brown are co-hosting Empathy, Antipathy and Love: Emotions in the Middle Ages in memory of well-loved RISD HPSS Professor David Warner, who had been in the midst of planning the conference when he passed away in May. The full-day event – the 2013 New England Medieval Conference – takes place in the Chace Center’s Metcalf Auditorium. It will begin with memories of Warner, led by his friend and colleague from Middlebury College Eliza Garrison, and close with a reception at President John Maeda’s house.

Out of love and respect for Professor Warner, a number of people – including HAVC Professor Susan Ward, Carrie Miller (Liberal Arts Office), Pat Brown (Alumni Relations), Mercedes Vaquero (Brown University) and RISD student Keela Potter 14 GD – stepped in to finish planning the event, notes Dean of Liberal Arts Dan Cavicchi. “It’s a conference but also a testament to the kind of community David really believed in,” he says.
