About half way through “The Bonobo and the Atheist.” Chapter four (‘Is God Dead or in a Coma’) was pretty disappointing. It commented on a few aspect of new atheism, such as dogmatic atheists and being mean instead of argumentative. While I agree that these are issues that should be mentioned, the whole chapter was just 'meh.’ Not very strong either way and it kind of unfairly summed up atheist thought. I guess the neutrality of de Waal should be expected, since he is Dutch after all (haha, world war two burn). Hope there’s more science in the next half, since I don’t think de Waal has anything particularly brilliant to say on religion or atheism. First three chapters were fairly interesting though!
