Are developers more interested about keeping up with the times rather than releasing an enjoyable game?
Gaming is constantly moving forward, from the visuals, gameplay and also the technology used to create the games we play. I will try my best to write in as much detail as I can, about my thoughts on the gaming industry and visual upgrades.
I have near to no knowledge if you asked me how a game is made, I would reply with something on the lines of coding (011010101 springs to mind). So before I make myself look stupid, I will not go into that aspect of game process. One thing I will say on the other hand, good job guys and thank you, couldn’t of done it without you.
Now, I have been playing computer games since around 1996-1997. Of course I wouldn’t actually be good at them by this point, or take any notice of the graphical values of the splendid games of this era, but I enjoyed them. This brings me onto the question, are developers more interested about keeping up with times rather than releasing an enjoyable game?
Yes, I am going to have a lot of… Very keen, gaming personnel stick their twitching fingers in and out of my read, which I am going to spend a handful of time reading through and checking, say that I am wrong. Am I not open to my opinion on a subject that is so open to opinions, mostly narrow minded, that I would say gaming is the most criticised subject in the world. With all this criticism, comes pressure. Pressure to create the, long anticipated, best game of all time, type of game.
This can not be good on the developers working on managing all these little armies of frantic programming specialists. The love for programming is left behind along with the real reason why they created their first ever game. Please tell me know I nothing about what happens in the studio, and I am wrong.
I come to think of visuals, or graphics as most people like to refer to them to. Graphics are probably the most important aspect of the game these days, pumping every little bit of power out of your console. Or is the visuals not the most important part? Someone is going round brainwashing individuals, making them believe that visuals are what gaming is all about! The visuals of the games these days are forever trying to compete. I would prefer to play a series that is more consistent throughout the storyline than it is visually from old to new. I want to get to know the character I am playing, some games do this tremendously well. Like Halo, Mass effect and maybe… Dead Space. These are the only games that I have properly followed from the start, I am actually happy I have spent so many hours indoors playing.
Obviously I get that the visuals have to be maintained, and of course it is pleasing to the eyes playing a game visually awesome. But are the visuals put first, before the story? Are people more interested in moving forward with technology rather than sitting back and enjoying a great storyline? Are devs trying to compete visually rather than telling a better story than the others? Or is this just my thoughts that are going to be ignored in the mass of articles on the internet?
