SPREAD MUSIC: Live Videos and Interview with And So I Watch You From Afar from Montreal
And So I Watch You From Afar, also known as ASIWYFA, was formed late in 2005 and went through a couple of member changes. The current members are Jonathan Adger on Bass, Rory Friers on Guitar, Niall Kennedy on Guitar, and Chris Wee on drums.
I recently had the chance to witness one of their numerous live performances in Montreal when they were on tour with TTNG and Mylets. Being natural performers, they deliver a live experience that is as intense as it is organic. The raw beauty evocated through the fingertips of these musicians is something that can only be felt in person. They are truly
XSNoize live review of And So I Watch You From Afar from the SOLD OUT London show
Northern Ireland’s Indie Prog-Rock quartet, And So I Watch You From Afar play a sold out Islington Assembly Rooms in London on 1st May. Verdict? Utterly Awesome! Suitably warmed up and ready to rock, the audience eagerly anticipate ASIWYFA’s arrival on stage. As the lights dim, a rumbling electronic intro fills the venue. This pretence seems to drag on a bit and the crowd get a little restless after a couple of minutes, but as the stage lights go up in a flurry of colour and dry ice illuminating the quartet, it matters little.
The boys kick off the set with “Run Home” and the crowd go nuts from the off. They put forth a formidable wall of sound such as I have not experienced before and by the time they play their 3rd number, “Wasps”, the mosh-pit is already very well established and the audience are loving it!
“ASIWYFA’s performance is full of energy”
Huffington Post interviews Rory Friers of And So I Watch You From Afar
A few days ago, I finally caught up with Rory Friers from the band And So I Watch You From Afar. The band is from Northern Ireland, so I have been watching them from afar. He was able to answer a few questions despite the time difference. ASIWYFA, as they are often called, has a new album, Heirs, and a new tour this year. Currently, they are my favorite instrumental band of all time. If you give their new album a chance, they might be your favorite instrumental band of all time also. Keep reading to find out if you’ll become a fire-breathing dragon. I’m just saying, anything is possible.
1. What was your inspiration for the new album?
It pretty much just came down to just wanting to make better music. The idea of making new songs or an album is an inspiration in its self really. Each time we get to put something new into the world its exciting, it’s a chance to say something louder than we would ever have had the chance to if not for the band.
And So I Watch You From Afar: Live Video from ArcTangent
A big thanks to the good people and our friends at Small Pond Recordings for making and sharing this live video of And So I Watch You From Afar from their amazing set at ArcTanGent festival.
ASIWYFA have a new album coming out on Sargent House in the first half of 2015 and from what we have heard of it so far I’m calling it their best ever. So buckle up and make sure to be following the band in their spots for news and behind the scenes pics and clips.
