I wrote a thing on a particularly memorable experience with a man on the street I had while walking home last summer. 

I first started getting cat called when I was 12. I hadn’t even gotten my period.

When I was 15, a man in a huge black SUV pulled over to harass me. I was wearing cargo shorts, an XL t-shirt and a fishing cap.

Last night a man told me “I like your glasses.” My hair was in a frizzy bun and I was covered in sweat from the gym.

Street harassment is not a compliment. It’s not about how hot you look, or what you were wearing. It’s about power. It’s about making women feel small. It’s about making women feel like public spaces are not for us.

Once you become a woman, your body becomes an object for every passing male to consume…even if you aren’t a woman yet.

Fuck. That. Noise.
