Today’s prompt for National Poetry Writing Month was to write a poem using at least three of the five senses. This being morning, I chose as the subject something that’s an integral part of my a.m. routine.

Waking desire propels me to action
seeking the aroma of ground-up beans
morning routine, rote poetry in motion
liquid that warms the throat and the mind
doctor it well…
