Pep recently sponsored the Cincinnati American Marketing Association Young Professionals “Interviewing Tips and Tricks” Panel event at Xavier University. Attendees heard from Director of Strategic Communications for the Cincinnati Museum Center and National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Natalie Hastings, LPK Talent Acquisition Manager Steve Bowling, LCA Human Resources Manager Jenn Newton Mullins, President of Unbridled Talent LLC Jennifer McClure, Fifth Third Bank Talent Acquisition Nick Milazzo, and Pep’s own Account Supervisor Mike Weinberg.
The audience of 50 heard unique, honest advice from this group of experienced professionals. The audience engaged in a discussion sparked by Jenn Newton Mullin’s response to a question where she encouraged job seekers to “let me like you”. Seemingly a simple concept, her point was important. Many times in interviews, interviewees don’t let their personality and passion shine through and it’s crucial to let an interviewer have time to respond to the information you’re sharing before you continue on. Give them a few moments during your interview to process all of your unique talents and experiences. The panel agreed that most professionals you will compete with for positions will be qualified, so be likeable, relate to the interviewer, connect, and offer real suggestions for the challenges their organization may be facing.
The American Marketing Association Young Professionals group (AMA YP) is a shared interest group of the Cincinnati American Marketing Association.
