Tokyo Rainbow Pride takes place on Sunday, April 27 in Harajuku’s Yoyogi Park. It’s part of Tokyo’s Rainbow Week, which runs from April 26th to May 6th.
Regarding TRP’s awesome mascot, from the great blog Tokyo Moe:
The mascot is a flying squirrel that lives in Shinjuku named Tobe. The name combines the Japanese word “fly” (飛ぶ) and the English word “to be” signifying personal expression.

The most beautiful cat cafe I have been to. It’s called Temari no Ouchi (Temari’s house) in Tokyo, Japan. The soft music and ambience feels like you are in a Studio Ghibli film. Had to take the Japan Railway there, but was totally worth the extra trip, & unlike the central Tokyo cat cafes, this one has no time limit, so feels totally relaxed. Several girls were even sleeping there amongst the cats.

Inu Yoshi (犬義) snapped the above shot of me and Anne Ishii at Hama-Rikyu Gardens (浜離宮恩賜庭園) the last time we were in Japan together, just over two years ago. After a tea house interview with the mangaka, we had so much fun shooting his portrait while frolicking in this colorful field. That interview and portrait are some of the earliest elements we collected for Massive: Gay Erotic Manga and the Men Who Make It— our big gay manga anthology which is finally hitting shelves (very) soon!
I’ve been dreaming of Tokyo ever since that trip, and I’m beyond thrilled to be returning next month. We’re planning a MASSIVE party in Shinjuku Ni-chome (details forthcoming!) and an appearance at the Kaigai Manga Festival (海外マンガフェスタ) with our friends from TCAF, too.
On this trip I hope to continue studying the legacies of contemporary queer art in Japan, reunite with our favorite mangaka, make new friends, develop future MASSIVE fashion and print projects, and cruise the bathhouses and hattenba. Won’t you join us? :)

DORAEMON MEETS ‘AKIRA’ IN DISTURBING 2020 TOKYO OLYMPICS ANIMATION
The city of Tokyo won its bid to host the 2020 Olympics this past fall, leading many people, this site included, to draw the parallel between reality and the post-apocalyptic manga and anime feature film Akira, which took place in the run-up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Neo-Tokyo.
The organizers real-life Games in Tokyo have turned to another manga/anime, Doraemon, to help promote the Olympics. The famous robot cat is an ambassador for the 2020 Games. With that in mind, animator Aleix Pitarch has combined Akira, Doraemon and the Olympics in a tribute video. It’s…harrowing.

Focusing on the build up and preparation to the Games along with the Opening Ceremony, we look at the Olympic effect on the capital city and how the world prepared for the 1964 Olympic Games.
