Bob Dylan Announces Tour Dates, Playing Orpheum Theatre

Bob Dylan has announce several new our dates where he’ll be trading in arenas for muti-night theatrer runs in several cities.  Locally, he’s playing the Orpheum Theatre November 14th and the Providence Performing Arts Center the following night.

I’m a Bob Dylan fan, but the state of his current live shows aren’t quite my cup of tea.  First, he pretty much plays the same exact same set list every night, offering no real surprises - so there’s not much point seeing multiple shows unless you want to experience the same thing over and over.  This really bums me out, as he obviously has a huge catalog of amazing music and could really create some very special and unique shows.  Also, when he does play a classic song, it’s a much different version of the original.  Not necessarily a bad thing, just different.

His voice is noticeably raspier, and he doesn’t really play the guitar any more on stage, opting for the keys instead.  I will say that his touring band is really good and sound great.  For a Dylan show, you just have to know what to expect before you go, and then appreciate it for what it is.  At the end of the day, we’re very lucky that he still creates music and tours.

Tickets for the Boston show go on sale to the public this Friday at 10am.
