oh my god this fucking scene. how did they make me care for coriolanus? I mean, he’s an incredibly foul human being but that still didn’t stop me weeping like a fool. and the poetry - I mean this is one of shakespeare’s weakest plays and even so, every second line had me reeling with the emotional truth of it all. 

Also, the actors and Josie Rourke did an exceptional job at making the humour REALLY work in this. I mean, for a tragedy about a good soldier (by that I mean that a soldier that is good at being a soldier, not that being a soldier is inherently noble), but deeply flawed man, it had a lot of brilliant laugh out loud moments. Also, when Josie Rourke was interviewed at half time and said (to paraphrase) “This play is still so relevant in many ways….I mean, you can look at the idea of a patrician class - that these people thought that they were somehow born to rule….and, well, you might recognise that, perhaps.” Because oh did I spy a dig at the Tories?
