How I record audio on my videos.
One of the most frustrating parts of film/video production is audio. We (film production professionals) have all had situations where the audio sucks. Whether there is interference or dropouts. It can definitely be a hair pulling event. Recently I started using the following equipment to great success. I like things easy and cheap. These fit the bill with great results.
Recorder: Zoom H1
These little recorders are great. I just set it and forget it. I give the groom/officiant the H1. Test the levels. Hit record, put it in lock mode, and clip the mic. That’s it! Easy. You can record for a very long time. Only takes one AA battery that lasts pretty long. You can also use it just like the picture.
Mic: Giant Squid. I don’t remember where I first heard of these lav mic’s but they are great. Cheap but well made. Get the right angle end if you want to use it with the H1.
Software: Plural Eyes. The audio is nice but it’s a pain to sync it with the video. That was until Plural Eyes came along. This amazing software analyzes the audio from your video and the recorded audio and syncs them together. Pretty quickly too. This is a must have it you do editing. So easy to use. Works with most major editing suites.
So there you have it. Remember it’s easier to edit bad video than bad audio.
