Stella 34 Trattoria

I’m liking the new renovations and transformation of the Macy’s Herald Square department store. The store is looking really nice, but of course what excites me the most is the new Italian restaurant located on the 6th floor.

I would never of thought to go to Macy’s for dinner, but after reading about the great reviews for Stella 34, I put it on my “must try list”. I went last week with a friend for early dinner. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious and quite elegant and modern. If you get to sit near the floor to ceiling windows you’ll get a very nice view of the Empire State Building.

My friend and I shared two appetizers, the roasted brussel sprouts and the octopus. There was a sauce on the brussel sprouts which was a little too sweet. The octopus wasn’t tough, but it was a little bland if you ate it without the sauce. I would skip the octopus next time. For my entree I tried the Eggplant made from the wood burning oven. It was so good! The eggplants were thinly sliced so when cooking in the oven the sides got a little crispy and crunchy. The sauce was amazing, zesty & garlicky and so fresh. The eggplant didn’t come with any pasta so I was still a little hungry after the meal. When I come back I would share a pasta or a pizza next time. I only tried a little bit of my friend’s cuttlefish ink pasta and the flavors were really nice as well. So whenever you’re shopping at Macy’s and need a bit to eat for lunch or dinner, you don’t have to go to far!

P.S. they also have Florence’s famous Vivoli gelateria located in the front of the restaurant. I highly recommend the hazelnut and pistachio flavors!
