Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Albums I’ve Been Late On

So I would say my music blog is still sort of running in beta, I am posting this pretty late. On Tuesdays I want to alternate between, expanding my music library and albums I’ve been late on. The latter is going to be a feature where I listen to albums from that I wanted to listen to, but some how didn’t.

I’m bummed I didn’t listen to this earlier. When I saw Japandroids over SXSW I was super into the new songs and readily awaiting the album. However, it ended up coming out when I was getting over school and getting ready for tour so it just didn’t click. As ridiculous as it sounds I think brogaze is a perfect way to describe Japandroids. What with the great distortion tone, lyrics about girls, and getting fucked up.

This LP is definitely more “rocknroll "than the last, but I don’t think that is necessarily a problem. "Younger Us” is my favorite because it hits hard like their older songs. Overall compared to the first album I would say this one is more refined, but less memorable. I wish more songs were like “Younger Us” and “The House That Heaven Built”, but I do enjoy the hell out the album. Maybe not album of the year like I’ve heard, but still awesome.

tl;dr Not as many memorable songs as Post-Nothing, but still really good
