A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Timothy J. Bassett enlisted in military service in 1991. Serving as a helicopter mechanic, he completed the majority of his service stationed in New River, North Carolina. He also was sent on deployment to the Persian Gulf, entering as a Private and returning to the U.S. six months later as a Corporal. In addition, Timothy J. Bassett's service to his country included time on the U.S.S. Kearsarge during its well-known rescue of Captain Scott O'Grady from Bosnia.

Timothy J. Bassett received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1995, returning home to accept a position as a corrections officer with the New York State Department of Corrections. In this role, he oversaw the custody and care of state inmates and maintained control within the corrections facility. He served in this position until the fall of 2000, at which time he joined the New York State Police, supporting public safety and enforcing traffic regulations.

In 2008, Timothy J. Bassett joined the private sector as a loss-prevention officer for a Sears retail store in New Hartford, New York. With his authoritative persona and awareness of potential threats, he monitored both employees and the public with an eye toward protecting company assets.

Timothy J. Bassett pursues outdoor activities in all seasons. He enjoys boating and camping when temperatures allow, and in the winter, he maintains an active interest in snowmobiling. During football season, he follows the New York Buffalo Bills. A family man, Mr. Bassett spends time with his children whenever possible, and takes an active role in their interests as well.
