Only You Know And I Know
Steve Miller was quite the rock performer who couldn’t get a cup of coffee on the radio. Songs like Space Cowboy and Livin’ in the USA barely registered on the screen of most Classic Rock Radio stations.
Then - he wrote The Joker. From that point on he became a Classic Rock staple…for his subsequent stuff. The old songs might as well have never existed. (I could draw the same analogy for Fleetwood Mac and pop radio).
I say this not to denigrate Steve Miller. I mean, Fly Like An Eagle is a fine - if overplayed - song.
There was another artist from that era. This guy played with one of the great bands of the 60′s & 70′s. He went on to collaborate with numerous artists and had a prolific solo career. Yet, he is a virtual no-show on Classic Rock Radio.
A simple twist of fate? Or, the lack of marketing muscle? For whatever reason it is a shame we do not hear more from Dave Mason.
