Suggestion of the day:
Wullae Wright - Superhero (Charity single)
After Roadtrippin’ / Survived Unpromised Souls, Superhero is the second single from Wullae Wright’s 2013 album The Orange Line , and once again, the term „single“ is somewhat misleading given the amount of bonus material included: not only the usual b-side, but 13 additional tracks such as earlier/alternative/remix versions of Superhero as well as of some other songs of The Orange Line – a perfect complement to your Wullae Wright collection (or a great start if you haven’t got one yet ;) )
Superhero is a track that perfectly showcases one of the most prominent features of Wullae’s art: his incredibly powerful and passionate voice. Passion ensues of course when a musician pours all of his heart into a song, which is definitely the case here. As Wullae explained to me: „The song itself is about cancer, and struggling to cope with it. I have lost grandparents to the disease and the song bears them in mind.“ Another of his grandparents having recently beaten the illness through a successful treatment at Beatson Cancer Centre (Glasgow Gartnavel Hospital), the decision to donate all of the proceeds from the single sale to Beatson Cancer Charity may have been a logic one, but that doesn’t make it less awesome. Of course, all the other musicians who contributed remixes / alternative versions also deserve a mention (and a listen!): Ambrose Chappel, Stuart Carroll, Belly Full Of Stars and Indigo Outlaw.
The only new song of the release, Any Minute Now, is a little acoustic gem on which Wullae recorded two vocal sets in different tones. The fact that they’re slightly asynchronous makes the listening experience even more special. Related to this song is another contribution by one of Wullae’s friends, not musical this time: inspired by The Orange Line, Lee Fereday created the artwork for this track.
You can download the whole bundle from Macaroni Penguin Music’s Bandcamp page for a mere 2,50 £. Let’s hope though that many purchasers will decide to pay a higher price, not only because it’s for a good cause, but also because the music is worth it ☺
