If you wish to communicate by design… By all means learn how to draw. Learn the tools, methods and what a line means. Whether free hand or mechanical; every line means something and it is no small task to know how to do it well.
Much in the design world is miscommunicated when poorly sketched instructions must be re-drawn since the technician cannot figure out the intent. Time is money and poor results occur when money is put ahead of the objective. Design is a decision with a reason attached. The reason has both a desire and a motive. If the design is not followed then we demonstrate to the world our low views and it is unlikely they will every see how much money you “saved” by the corners cut.
