HEY!

We’re one of the L Mag’s 8 Bands You Need to Hear for 2014!

This is probably the coolest thing ever.  (We have scientists working on the validity of that statement as we speak, but, in the spirit of scientific theory, let’s just give it the benefit of the doubt because DANG.)

We had a rad time hanging with the L Mag’s Lauren and co. earlier this month, and we really dig what they wrote about us in the mag:

We first heard about Teen Girl Scientist Monthly from a middle-aged couple from Baltimore practicing normcore a little too literally to blend into the crowd at Pianos, where they saw us jotting down notes at a CMJ show and struck up a conversation. When talk turned from their refreshingly unjaded take on new music to the persistent inclination in indie rock to downplay enthusiasm—because, we dunno, Pavement?—they offered TGSM as a rebuttal. Unabashed earnestness is the running theme on the sextet’s Kickstarter-funded Modern Dances, a sprint through crowded spaces and blaring instruments in line with early, glass-half-full Los Campesinos! albums. Its follow up, We Run with Gangs, is a rainbow smear of punk-paced melodies and guitar grit reminding us that, even with its hints of grunge, this isn’t the 90s: happiness is as equally authentic as sadness.
