Trial of Friar Laurence, Day One: The Prosecution – scenes and highlights:
- First period’s prosecution bombed, as predicted, but it was quite a sight to behold. Very entertaining for all, themselves included.
- Best part was when they included Tybalt’s name on their witness list but there was no student in the classroom assigned that role, nor had they prepared questions for his character.
- Regardless, a student volunteered to be Tybalt (and did a kickass job ad-libbing, I might add) and he single-handedly undermined the entire Prosecution’s case and/or credibility.
- Yes, you read that right: their own witness. It was awesome.
- Fourth period’s Mock Trial Kid tried to
ruinrun the whole show by serving the Judge of the classroom with papers immediately requesting the trial be dropped due to insufficient evidence. Said Judge stared at him, had no idea what to do, and I had to shout, “You’re the judge! Tell him no!” - At the end of the Prosecution’s case, one lawyer decided a witness to question wasn’t necessary and went off half-cocked on the Mock Trial Kid about something related to the Friar’s potion. I’m not even sure what the point was, but it was entertaining. Again: had to remind Judge that she was a Judge.
- Sixth period rocked it. There wasn’t always continuity in the line of questioning, but the Prosecution’s case was solid and the Defense did cross-examination like pros.
- Overall, all classes handled it like champs. They were well prepped for the experience and had done their homework (literally and figuratively) to make the day run pretty smoothly.
- Best moment of the day goes to the Temporary Tybalt of 1st, hands down.
