LUPITA + LIPSTICK
By Lydia

Hello!  I’m Lydia from the personal style blog Style is Style. I seldom wear makeup in my everyday life, but Powder Doom is inspiring me to experiment more! One product I am always into is LIPSTICK. Nothing is quite as satisfying as punctuating my face with a bold (or subtle) lip color. This post is essentially a fangirl homage to Revlon’s range of lipsticks + Lupita Nyong’o’s general amazingness. Clearly, Lupita is everything, and the girl knows her lip colors. I did three looks ranging from super easy to still pretty easy, using various Revlon lip products. I love the creaminess of their formulations, and the intensity of the pigments are excellent for drugstore prices. But enough about the lipstick…on to the looks!

LOOK #1: SHAMELESS

The first look is inspired by Lupita’s beauty spread in Glamour Magazine. A simple vibrant purple lip + eyebrows is all that is required here, but the results are quite satisfying. Revlon Colorburst Matte balm in Shameless + Per-fekt Brow Perfection Gel in espresso is all I used for this particular look. Low matinence + high payoff is exactly how I like to roll. Matte balm can be a little drying, so I recommend doing a lip scrub and putting a little bit of balm before usage.

LOOK #2: ELECTRIC

Based on a look from an Oscar pre-party, this one is a blue cateye paired with orange lips. I love a beautiful royal blue, so I was looking forward to this one. Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Coral is my favourite orange lip color. I mellowed the eyeliner and settled on Maybelline Master Smoky Mechanical pencil in blue blaze for the top cat eye, with TopShop Kohl liner in Coal for some definition on the waterline. The Topshop cosmetics aren’t particularly smudge proof or long lasting, but they have a very smooth formulation and immense color payoff.

LOOK #3: LOLLIPOP

Finally, a sweetly seductive defined smoky eye, taking note from Lupita’s excellent look at the LA premiere of 12 Years A Slave. Simplifying the look, I put Urban Decay eyeshadow in Ransom (a shimmery purple) on the inner corners of my eyelids, about a third of the way in. Then I used TopShop kohl dust in Ash to create a Cleopatraesque dramatic smoked cat eye on the other ⅔ of the eye. I angled the outside corner in the direction of the end of my eyebrow, then filled in the shape. Afterward I blended the black shadow into the purple where they meet, to soften the look. I also lined the lower rim of my eyelid with TopShop liner in Coal. Finally I used one of my favourite pinks, Revlon Colorburst lip butter in Lollipop (which smells divine!) to imitate the gorgeous pink pout that Lupita had.

And there you have it! I hope y’all have as much fun as I did recreating Lupita + Lipstick moments!
