Warning: Might Be T.M.I.!!!

Okay, I’m going to be upfront because I’m curious to see if any of you have gone through it. This post is about MENSTRUAL CYCLES SO IF YOU ARE GROSSED OUT OR DISTURBED BY THIS THEN PLEASE SKIP THIS POST.

Anywho, okay so I have not had my period in 5 months and I am on (and have continuously been on) birth control pills. Here are the stats:

  • For the first 4 months there was no possible way that I could have been pregnant (I was being a good girl)
  • Being on the pill is supposed to give you a period
  • I had been on the same pill for over 2 years
  • Everyone I’ve talked to has said it is more than likely because of the weight I’ve lost and fitness, but those people also said they were put ON the pill to give them a period…..but I am ALREADY on the pill hmmm……
  • I realize my body has changed with losing weight, but 5 months is a long time!
  • Talked to my OB-GYN and she said she isn’t worried because I’m getting the hormones I need from the pill, and that if I wasn’t on the pill and not getting my period for that long then she would be worried
  • She also said, that if it freaks me out not having a period (this was prior to meeting the boy) and I get pregnancy scares then she could switch brands of the pill to test that out, so just to be safe I asked her to change the brand once meeting the boy
  • Started the new brand nearly a week ago, so still have about 3 weeks to see if I get my period this time around.

So my question to you Tumblr ladies out there is, have you gone through this (being on the pill) and did you resolve it somehow?

  1. misshhealth-blog answered: That really does sound normal - pills and body change are a funny thing. If you don’t like the side effects, then a switch sounds good!
  2. ggreenlight answered: I am on Loestrin and I rarely get my period, if i do, it is a day or two of light spotting.
  3. brave-princessss answered: YES. I was on Loestrin24FE and after about 7 months I stoped getting my period altogether for about 2 years. Was told it was perfectly normal
  4. kirstentraining-blog said: PS- it worries me that docs just want to fix periods by putting people on the pill… a lot of the paleo stuff I read makes me think that insulin/metabolic issues are probably the root cause, and the synthetic hormones just cloud the issue…
  5. kirstentraining-blog answered: I’m on a hormonal IUD, generally just get some spotting once a month. I worry it’s hiding an underlying issue - symptoms make me think PCOS.
  6. theinlines-blog answered: Yes, I’ve been through the exact same thing. My doctor put me on progesterone to start my period and then a higher dosed bc pill, it worked:)
  7. fattylife said: P.S but it did freak me out sometimes,I had a boyfriend then also and ended up taking a pregnancy test about once every 3 months juuussstt in case. :P But it was nice to not have to deal with periods for like a year. Came back 2 weeks after I stopped
  8. fattylife answered: I was on a minipill as opposed to full pill(no week off, doesn’t regulate periods)and my periods went away after 3 months,Was told its normal
  9. changemyself-blog-blog answered: Is it a progesterone or combo pill? Progesterone is more likely to stop your period. I was on depo for 3 mths but havent had a period in 5 :/
