Listening to LA JETEE

Criterion staff writer / Reverse Shot editor-in-chief Michael Koresky put together this video-essay on Chris Marker’s seminal La Jetée, and it’s definitely worth a watch. More crucially, it’s worth a listen. so much is made of Marker’s imagery, that his masterful soundscapes (and all of the heavy lifting they’re required to do) are often overlooked. Koresky says nuts to that, and this short video — which he narrates in a style that i find appropriately evocative of The Virgin Suicides — is a great reappraisal of a masterpiece that lingers in your ears as much as it burns into your retinas.
