Hyperrealistic Portraits Using Acrylic Paint by  JW-Jeong

Joongwon (Charles) Jeong is a hyperrealist painter from South Korea. A freelance artist and illustrator, Jeong studied Visual Communication Design at the Hongik University of Fine Art & Design in Seoul.

Jeong’s preferred medium is acrylic on canvas which he says is so versatile and its effect ranges from “thick, oil-like texture to watercolour splashes.”

With solo and group exhibitions in Seoul, Jeong is also quite popular online, especially on deviantART and Facebook where you can see much more of his incredible work.

Jeong lists his favourite artists as: Michleangelo, Titian, Holbein, Norman Rockwell, Sebastian Kruger, James Gurney, and Drew Struzan

Perhaps one of the most unappealing portraits of the Renaissance is Quentin Massys’s An Old Woman. Scholars have long been perplexed on the nature of the portrait; was this woman real, a study of the grotesque, or was Massys satirizing women who tried too hard to remain young? Recent research indicates that the painting is not a copy of Leonardo’s da Vinci grotesque drawings but rather Da Vinci copied Massys, an unexpected find. Art historians are not the only ones drawn to this work, medical researchers have contributed to the discussion as well. They believe that the woman was suffering from Paget’s disease, bone abnormalities that lead to deformities. Her actual identity, if there is one, remains unknown. The painting is one of the most popular pieces on display in the National Gallery, London.

Textural Paintings by Denis Sarazhin

Denis Sarazhin born in 1982 is a Ukrainian painter. He attended the Kharkov Art and Design Academy, graduating in 2008. Since 2007 he has been a member of Kharkov’s section of the association of Ukraine’s Artists’ Alliance. Sarazhin was awarded the 1st Degree Diploma Award for Excellence in Painting from the Ukrainian Art Academy.

The Enigmatic Self Portraits of Erina Matsui

Of all categories of art, my practice has been focused on self-portraits, which can be most primitive and fundamental yet extremely tricky. I have been exploring my own unique way of approaching these propositions.
In the simple processes of painting, this practice has been something like a navigation system for me to find emotions and ideals that I have not yet been aware of. I always find two overlapping perspectives in this process; eyes to observe myself and eyes to see something familiar.
