A few days ago, Netflix suggested I watch The Stepford Wives - why exactly, I’m not sure, but - I listened.
Not too far into the movie, I began to realize that this movie was no joke when it came to flowers. In practically every single scene, there were flowers - everywhere! Behind actors, on tables, mantles, dresses, hats, in hair, landscaping…everywhere. I found myself concentrating more on the beautiful background than on the movie itself (which isn’t the worst thing because let’s be honest, this isn’t an Oscar-worthy cinematic adventure).
While it may not be an Oscar-worthy cinematic adventure, it’s definitely worth a watch for any flower-lover. Check out some - trust me, there’s more than what you see here - of my favorite screen shots…

2012 Memorial Day Flowers!
Check out this short video highlighting last year’s incredibly successful Memorial Day Flowers event. Participating in the Memorial Day Flowers “Florists & Community” program is an excellent way to connect with your community and honor those who served. A single rose, placed on a headstone, is a floral expression of appreciation.
Memorial Day 2012
- 50,000 roses were donated by farms and distributed by 84 florists at 95 cemeteries or ceremonies in 26 states.
- The cornerstone of the 2012 event was Arlington National Cemetery. 60,000 Ecuadorian roses and 2,000 California Bouquets were handed out by 120 volunteers.
2013 Goal
- The Memorial Day Flowers “Florists & Community” program has expanded and will be offered to two hundred florists nationally.
- Participating florists will receive 400 roses, a Memorial Day Flowers banner, and 200 informational handouts.(There is a space on the back of the handout to place your shops’ information.)
There are several ways to use the roses you will receive within your own community:
- Contact your local Veterans’ Cemetery and set up a table to distribute roses to visitors. Each visitor will be given two stems of roses: one to place on a headstone and one to take home in remembrance of afriend or relative. Optionally, you could provide a service for families that are unable to visit by sending a digital picture of the rose lying on the headstone.
- Distribute roses at your local Memorial Day parade or ceremony.
- Place a sign under your shop offering a free Memorial Day rose to anyone who comes in on the proceeding Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Your 400 roses are donated by South American and U.S. rose growers. For Delaware Valley Floral Group customers, there is no charge, as DVFG will pick up the freight and handling cost.

While these little guys may be able to take the heat, it’s important that we humans stay safe, cool, and hydrated in such dangerous outdoor conditions! Don’t take the heat warning lightly; take a second to review the symptoms of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke, and be sure to drink plenty of water!
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING
An excessive heat warning has been issued for the New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Philadelphia areas. This means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. Combined high humidity with the hot temperatures will create a dangerous situation in which heat related illnesses are likely.
When possible, limit time outdoors, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Drink plenty of water, wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Children and anyone over 50 are more susceptible.
HEAT EXHAUSTION:
Fatigue
Nausea
Headache
Excessive thirst
Muscle aches and cramps
Weakness
Confusion
Drenching sweats
Dizziness
HEAT STROKE:
Nausea and vomiting
Dizziness
Hot flushed, dry skin
Rapid heat beat
Decreased sweating
Shortness of breath
Increased body temperature (103-106F)
Confusion, delirium, or loss on consciousness
Convulsions
Heat stroke can occur suddenly, without any symptoms of heat exhaustion. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY, 9-1-1. Any delay could be fatal. DO NOT GIVE ANYTHING to an unconscious person by mouth. Get those affected to a cooler area and loosen clothing.

We are pleased that all of the Gallagher salespeople will be joining DVFlora and will be continuing to work from the Plains PA sales and distribution center. We have had great success adding wholesalers to our company and remain interested in further acquisition opportunities.”
