Ts'oa Jio Po: The spirit of the sea-storm. (Uhhh…..)

jessnevins:

Want to know more about this.

But am afraid to Google it:

…Amoy sailors at sea drive away the terrible Pissing Woman by the firing of crackers and blunderbusses.

Here, a safe-for-work explication. Abusive sailor, wife drowns herself, no ship is safe from angry spirit. When a compact storm cloud is seen, sailors must batten hatches, set off loud firecrackers, burn spirit money, and have one man “in the garb of nature” climb the tallest mast with his hair disheveled and brandish a weapon while yelling insults and profanity, as another black-robed man performs an exorcism.

I’ll have to try this myself, I think.
