Big life news: new city, new job

I’m delighted to be able to tell you all that this week I resigned my current day job at Comtec. As of February 2014, Danielle and I will be moving to London, where I will start a new job with… wait for it… Google! I’ll initially be joining the Android team, working on client apps like Play and Gmail, which as most of you probably know is quite the plot twist for me.

It’s a very exciting opportunity, and one I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth into.

Obviously a lot of stuff has to happen between now and then – physically moving our lives 125 miles away isn’t trivial, nor is finding a place in London (the cost of living in That London is deeply frightening!) We’re going to end up in a much smaller house or flat than we have right now, and we’ll have to work hard to find one we can afford and that will let us keep our dog. My current commute time of five minutes – six with traffic – will be a distant memory as I slog through London’s overcrowded public transport. This may give me chance to develop strong opinions about podcasts.

But this boring logistical stuff will all pass and soon enough we’ll be settled in the big city. We’re really excited, and we can’t wait to get started!
