I am pretty shocked all in all by this project. BIG’s diagrams are almost cliched parodies at this point with each subsequent design looking like another mountain of white concrete blocks or stair fins.
You can’t argue with this form of matter-of-fact logic but you are definitely left wanting for something that isn’t more concrete. Having just listened to half of Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink!, the simplicity of BIG’s design solutions are refreshingly potent. They are not beautiful designs - in fact they revel in their gaudy timeliness - but they are snap judgments that come from strong intuition. Sometimes people demand a complicated answer but find out they want a simple joke.
