The diagram above shows a three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system according to Western mathematical convention, with origin O and axis lines X, Y and Z, oriented as shown by the arrows. This is the conventional right-handed scheme.
If the diagram is flipped so the Y-axis points up and the Z-axis points into the screen, the coordinate system described in the previous post (and the one we will be using to construct our I Ching mandala) results. Note that although the orientation of axes has changed the relationship of the axes has not. Since the relationship of the axes is unperturbed or invariant with the change described, the right-hand rule is preserved. The presentation has changed from the conventional to an unconventional one, but nothing of mathematical or physical significance has changed. It’s just a matter of convention.
