I Would Have Nominated Someone Else For That Drama Emmy*

I absolutely LOVE Downton Abbey, but no, no, no, no, NO to all these Emmy nominations for its weakest season. This is my biggest objection, but I object with love.

Best Drama:  In this category, I would have given Downton Abbey’s nomination to Justified, which had another very strong season. Harlan County deserves some love, and a Dairy Queen. Cannot argue with the others–Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, and Mad Men were just excellent.

Best Actress Drama: Did the academy not understand that Tatiana Maslany exists? She played over ten, fascinating characters on Orphan Black. This is highway robbery. I cannot deal with this. No objections to Connie Britton, Claire Danes, Vera Farmiga, Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Robin Wright, who were all at the top of their game. However, Maslany should have earned that seventh nomination. Michelle Dockery’s strong, quiet performance on Downton Abbey was good, but nowhere near what Maslany turned out for ten episodes.

Best Actor Drama: Surprise, my only objection is with the nomination for Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville. Justified’s Timothy Olyphant is so underrated, and deserves to be recognized for the blend of humor/pathos he gives to Raylan Givens every week. However, Bryan Cranston should actually win the Emmy. Respect Heisenberg. SAY HIS NAME.

Best Supporting Actress Drama: No serious complaints here, even with the Downton Abbey (which I LOVE, I swear) nomination–Maggie Smith is flawless. Arguably, Michelle Fairley could have edged out Emilia Clarke for Game of Thrones, and they could have included Justified’s Joelle Carter. Christina Hendricks probably did not have enough material to merit this year’s nomination, but let’s be honest, she deserves the WIN for every year she was robbed. Her Jaguar episode of Mad Men…just thinking about it, and it is getting dusty in here.

Best Supporting Actor Drama: I am in love with everything Aaron Paul, Jonathan Banks, Peter Dinklage, and Mandy Patinkin do on a weekly basis. They could win in a four-way tie. HOWEVER, this should be a six-way tie including Game of Thrones’ kingslayer, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Justified’s Walton FREAKIN Goggins. These snubs are just inexcusable, especially Goggins. Much as I adore Downton Abbey’s Carson, Jim Carter does not belong here.

Ok, this ramble has been my Hot Emmy Takes (Drama). Maybe one day I’ll do the comedy noms.

*If Orange is the New Black was eligible this season, I would give it all of the nominations. For everything. Seriously, all of the awards for this show.
