Today we launched Pears, the world’s first-ever social platform designed exclusively for couples. In the few hours Pears has been live for Avocado users, they’ve already begun telling their stories everywhere. From Bogota to Australia, Sweden to Oregon, and in 41 U.S. states and 34 countries, couples have discovered a new way of sharing their most favorite moments with each other and the world.
With Pears, you can:
Create and share your moments, all from a profile that you share with your favorite person
Customize your shared profile with covers, avatars, names, and locations
Follow, “love”, and comment on other couples’ stories from around the world
Take fun quizzes and match them up against your other half (Which Game of Thrones couple are you?)
Save conversations you don’t want to forget
Instantly share your moments to Twitter or Facebook
Pears and Avocado share a common login, so you can bookmark your favorite moments in Avocado and share them to Pears instantly (for more on that, read the FAQ below).
Pears is open to everyone starting today, though some couples may land on a wait list during our initial sign-up rush. You can see some of our favorite couples right here.

Why is this a thing?
More and more couples are sharing accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and beyond. The trend hasn’t exactly been supported by these networks - some, like Facebook, expressly forbid shared accounts, and others tend to make such a use case difficult in practice. Meanwhile, Pears is built from the ground up for two people to share as one.
A recent study showed that posting about your relationship on Facebook makes you more likely to report being happier than couples who don’t. With our app, Avocado, we’ve seen over and over how a digital home built for two can vastly improve couples’ relationships. Pears is the new frontier for us to help couples grow closer together and to connect with other couples.
Sharing things from my Avocado… Uh, privacy issues?
We got your back, boo. Yes, you can share individually selected stories from Avocado to Pears just by favoriting them, but you are in full control of that decision. If you want to keep your content private and just for you two, simply make your Pears account private. Every last piece of your content will be hidden from others’ view. Even if you have a private account, you can still see public accounts on Pears and follow other couples.
If you want to join other couples in sharing your love stories publicly, make your profile public in settings. That’s it!
How do I share things from Avocado to Pears?
Once you confirm your Pears profile, you’ll be able to view your favorited items as well as favorite new items immediately. Here’s how to do it:
Android:
- Long press a photo or message
- “Add Favorite”
- Swipe right on a photo or message
Web:
- Click the star on any photo or message
