2nd International Conference on Universal Village at MIT
On Monday, June 16, Swiss Consul Dr. Felix Moesner was invited to the 2nd International Conference on Universal Village (UV2014) to hold a keynote speech and a technical talk on the Zero Power Swiss Initiative. The Universal Village Conference promotes collaboration between multi-disciplinary fields in order to find a systematic, coordinated, long-term solution for environmental challenges. Additionally, participants explore innovative technologies to create sustainable happiness among members of society. UV2014 held special sessions on topics such as energy sources, new technologies for environmental protection, innovative technologies that support new life styles on remote healthcare, intelligent transportation, city management, remote education and integrated solutions on urgent challenges on security, privacy, climate change, etc.
Representing Prof. Dr. Adrian Ionescu, Chair of the Zero Power initiative, the Consul presented the opportunities of autonomous smart systems for environmental and health monitoring at UV2014. Prof. Ionescu and swissnex Boston also contributed a poster to the exhibition in the MIT Stata Center.
The Zero Power Swiss Initiative, which developed out of the Guardian Angels project, was co-funded by EPFL and ETHZ in 2013. It is designed to reinforce Swiss leadership in strategic research and industrial applications related to health care, the pharmaceutical industry, buildings, environment and telecom, as well as to serve future sustainable & energy-efficient applications. Their research around self-powered systems has the capability to address urgent, long-term challenges concerning quality of life, ageing population, green energy, and smart services in these fields, leading to the creation of new industries, businesses and jobs. These self-powered systems are non‐intrusive, independent and cost‐efficient intelligent devices, which will communicate with each other and will support humans by sensing bio‐medical signals and the environment.
