Daybreakers genuinely surprised me. I heard a lot of terrible things about this movie, so I put off watching for the longest time. Thanks to Netflix though, I finally watched it (friggin’ love Netflix. For real.).

In the not-so-distant future, vampires are everywhere and they are harvesting humans to drain their blood as a food source. Ethan Hawke’s character is anti-human blood and doesn’t want to be a vampire, so he finds a cure thanks to some crafty humans. Wacky hi-jinks ensue. (Obviously, not actually wacky, but if you want the whole story line, watch the movie).

It was nice to watch a vampire movie where the vampires actually behave as vampires. I, like the majority of the population, am growing more and more exhausted by vampires being everywhere, but Daybreakers was a very much needed breath of fresh air..

The cinematography was beautiful, Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park is the villain, and Ethan Hawke wasn’t terribly annoying. The story line felt fresh with the cure that was discovered and I didn’t feel annoyed by the vampires at any time. It’s a politically charged film with tons of guts and gore (my fav).

8/10
