Months ago I had begun working on a short 12 page comic with my friend and writer Austin Wilson (austinRwilson.tumblr.com) for an anthology piece inspired by “Metal”. That project ended up falling through along with the already illustrated pages. I wasn’t sure what was going to come of the project, so I had not touched the pages since. Recently however, I’ve decided to finish the comic and have begun adding color. I plan to sell it as a mini and use it as a fun promotional piece for various cons. Here is a preview from a full colored page in the story.

I was honored to have made a pin-up piece for the upcoming run of Image comics’ Luther Strode series by the great team of Tradd Moore and Justin Jordan. This is a new character, thus I decided to stay relatively true to her design for now at least. I can safely say the book is looking phenomenal! Definitely keep an eye out if you’re interested in great art and a great story!
I recently joined the collective group called Brand New Nostalgia, which was created by my good friend Andrew McLean (we’ll be sharing a booth at the BostonComicCon and are both part of Out Of Step Artists). For the last week or so I’ve been working on some designs for a website. They are Boston based start-up company that deals with finding and comparing auto-repair shops’ pricing and availability. This illustration was for the homepage. The first one I did on the left was a bit too “my style” and didn’t quite fit the feel we were going for on the site. The second one was the revamped version that was a bit more architectural and sleek, which better fir the style we were aiming for. Each one stays true to and represents the overall palette of the page.
I’m currently wrapping up a project that I’ve been working on with Erik Craddock. The story is a 15 page comic that will appear in an upcoming anthology being printed and distributed by Ape Entertainment about the seven deadly sins; our story is “Envy”. It won’t be released until later this year, but for now I will leave you with this preview of the first “title” page. I’m yet to include dialogue, so it’s up to you to create it for now. This is a piece I made for an upcoming gallery show based on yakuza film-inspired art show entitled BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY after the film of the same name. It will be held at Floating World Comics in Portland, OR! I initially created more action oriented concepts, but after having researched more and reflected deeply on their overall principles, I decided to focus on the more quiet route of the Yakuza’s everyday existence amongst the average community members. The part that intrigued me was the fact they consider themselves more business men than criminals, much like the Mafia crime syndicate.
Also, since it’s hard to see here and I thought it looked cool on its own, I’ve included the three step process I took to make the faded figure in the background. This is also representative of a method in which I’ve been working lately. I will make the initial drawing on bristol paper, but then I will ink various segments of the same image on separate layers of vellum or tracing paper. This allows me to make alterations and adjustments on size or placement while I’m in the digital process. It will also be a necessary portion of a long-term project I’ll be working on at my company dobot, which is a design company that my friend and I have started. You will be seeing this name alongside mine on many future products. Find out more here!

After great apprehension to do so, I broke and ended up buying a jumbo (12"x17"-ish) Moleskine sketchbook. The size is truly fantastic and really allows your hand and arm to move freely about the page without any worry of constraint. In order to get this bad boy started, I chose to do an illustration of The White Violin from Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba. If you haven’t done so yet, read that comic now… like, right now.
It took me a while to get around to reading it myself actually. Since it came out in the years of my college education, I didn’t allow myself the opportunity of reading it then, although I’m sure it would’ve helped inspire me and my studies in some way, especially considering it was art school. Looking back on it, I didn’t even have good excuse; even the library next door to my house had a copy. In the end, I bought one for myself to enjoy at my own leisure in the comfort of my own home, and man did I enjoy it. So in short, I recommend everyone give it a chance, or at least check it out several times from your library so that it at least makes you feel guilty for not reading it.
On another note:
I initially acquired this massive sketchbook in order to travel with it, but I had not anticipated its scale to that of my backpack. So I’m not quite sure how transportable it will ultimately be, but I plan on taking it for a spin with me to California this Friday for some good old life drawing exercises. If all goes well, I will return home with a more complete and hopefully intact sketchbook. Otherwise this White Violin sketch might be the one and only drawing attributed to this new sketchbook’s name (Heraldo?) that sees the light of day

A variant cover I did for DC Comics’ “Harley Quinn The Animated Series Legion of Bats” issue 1, which comes out October 19, 2022! I had so much creating this one since I adore Harley and Ivy (they’re my favorite DC couple). And I wanted to place them into a cute dating scenario that could include little nods to various other infamous Batman characters, and what better place to do so than a Gotham City arcade?
I’ve included the original thumbnail sketch along with the final inks to share some of the processes that go behind the final colored piece. I hope ya’ll enjoy it! You can read more about the upcoming issue below:
