How To Avoid Hat Hair

Tis the season to be jolly but it’s also the season for windy cold temperature, wrapping up and hat hair! Yes hat hair — the way your hair looks after wearing a hat! Normally, wear a hat creates a static build up and makes your hair limp and lifeless (though hair, by default, is dead).

But you don’t need to choose between staying protected and looking good since there are some essential tips on how to wear a hat and still have great looking hair.

  1. Remember to condition your hair as dry hair will just stick to the inside of the hat more. Check out BaByliss Pro Argan Oil Conditioner because it is enriched with moisturising Moroccan argan oil that smooths and protects each hair fibre.
  2. Remember to dry hair and to not leave it damp as a damp hair will be more susceptible to flattening and a line caused by a hat.
  3. Seek to straighten hair as by flattening hair on propose you will avoid disappointment when the hat flattens your style.
  4. Finish your hair with a hairspray like Clynol Freeflow Flexible Hairspray which is ideal for moments when you need to add a hint of control and body or just want to bring a little gentle order to a style.  Avoid mousse or gel as these will add moisture to the hair making it more susceptible to hat hair.
  5. Take your hat off every 30 mins and if at all possible brush it to remove static build up.
  6. Seek out hats in cotton, or with a cotton lining, or cashmere which build up less static build up than wool. Your biggest enemy is synthetic materials.
  7. Seek out loose fitting hats like a floppy hat or a beret as these allow hair to lie naturally, whereas beanies force the hair high on to the head.
  8. If you really have a bad case of hat hair don’t try to sort it by brushing instead carry emergency hairspray in your bag and try to blast hairspray on to your fingers and try to “spot treat” any flyways.
